Misconduct & Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Advanced Computing Systems (JACS) is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in academic publishing. Editors of the journal have the right to alert potential misconduct to appropriate agents (e.g., funders, employers, or the editorial board). Authors and peer-reviewers have the right to respond to allegations, and investigations will be carried out with diligence. An allegation must be substantiated and proven right or wrong by the editors.

Handling Errors and Misconduct

When errors affect the interpretation of information, JACS has the right to publish 'corrections' (errata), regardless of the cause of the error. Similarly, JACS has the right to publish 'retractions' if work is proven to be fraudulent or 'expressions of concern' when there is a suspicion of misconduct. Depending on the severity of the misconduct:

  • The author's institution may be informed.
  • The author may be temporarily or permanently barred from publishing in JACS.

Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism or duplication of another text is strictly forbidden, even if it is an author's previous publication. Plagiarism includes misappropriation or theft of intellectual property by copying another's work. Authors must avoid duplication of another's research and must always explicitly cite the source of their information. The proper way to refer to sources is outlined in the submission guidelines of JACS.

Plagiarism Detection

JACS employs iThenticate, a leading plagiarism detection tool, to identify potential cases of plagiarism. Articles suspected of duplicating another's work will be rejected.

Exceptions to Duplication

Duplication is not applicable in the following cases:

  • Copying information from a university dissertation or thesis, provided it is the author's own work.
  • Posters, abstracts, or results presented at meetings, provided it is the author's own work.
  • Results in databases and clinical trials registries.

Translations and Permissions

Authors who translate and publish material that has been published elsewhere must ensure they have appropriate permission. They must always identify the source of the original material and provide proper attribution.

Consequences of Misconduct

Acts of plagiarism and other forms of misconduct are violations of the Ethical Statement of JACS and will not be tolerated. Cases of suspected misconduct will be investigated by editors in accordance with the best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). If malpractice is documented, even after an article is published, the following actions may be taken:

  • The article may be retracted.
  • The authors may be banned from submitting additional manuscripts to JACS permanently.
